International Paper’s Buena Park Kraft Paper Bag Plant is seeking a Shipping Supervisor. This position has two major roles:

Schedules the production machines.

Schedules all shipping and receiving events.

JOB SUMMARY: Coordinates production schedules and ensures actual production meets the scheduled requirements. Responsibilities include capacity planning, freight scheduling, pricing freight, pallet ordering and inventory tracking, daily inventory, monthly inventory with accounting department, expediting.

Production Scheduling Responsibilities:

  • Release all customer print requisitions to the manufacturing floor.

  • Create the weekly production plan (2 weeks out). Review, modify and update for appropriate action.

  • Reschedules orders when necessary.

  • Communicates changes.

  • Coordinates the shipping plan and manufacturing plan with the Production Manager.

  • Monitors effective scheduling by maximizing production runs based on number of colors, color to color change, etc.

  • Schedules down machines to be readied, set up and lined out prior to actual production.

  • Interact with all internal departments; customer service, sales, maintenance, production and accounting.

  • Resolve scheduling conflicts and prioritize customer’s needs accordingly.

  • Work with maintenance by communicating windows of machine availability for PM’s and down days for maintenance.

  • Monitor effectiveness of scheduling by maximizing production runs based on number of colors, color to color order, etc.

  • Schedule down machines to be prepared for operation by having them set up, lined out for actual production at the start of the shift.

  • Interact with internal departments; customer service, sales, maintenance, production and accounting.

Shipping/Receiving Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for planning and managing all Shipping Department activities including department employees, equipment, storage, loading and shipping of materials into and out of the Plant.

  • Manage all inbound and out bound freight.

  • Insure compliance with all EHS rules, policies and responsibilities.

  • Supervise, train and coach all shippers and receivers.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers and freight companies.

  • Analyze daily work volume and administer effort hour requirement.

  • Manage a team of 4 direct reports in a union environment to ensure daily tasks/projects are completed on time.

  • Communicate and implement (hold accountable for compliance) policies and procedures. Employees are cross-trained, flexible and can easily respond to changing business needs.

  • Ensure that orders are picked and shipped within appropriate time frames while maintaining load quality.

  • Ensure all safety inspections related to the dock, the rail spur and the powed industrial trucks are completed and accurate.

  • Ensure order accuracy and improves production standards.

  • Computer literacy to include Microsoft Suite and SAP.

  • Experience with KIWI is a plus.

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.
