Manufacturing Excellence Manager
This is an Engineering and Technical management position reporting directly to the Newport Mill Manager. The incumbent will serve as a member of the Mill's Lead Team, and will be responsible for sustaining and growing a culture of Manufacturing Excellence to deliver year-over-year cost reduction. The person in this position will continue to develop the ME organization, including ME Area Leaders and entry-level REACH engineers. There are approximately 6-8 salaried employees under the leadership and direction of this position.
Demonstrated leadership in the area of safety; support broad based participation in the mill’s safety process and initiatives.
Responsible for recruiting, training and career development of the Manufacturing Excellence team, including REACH engineers, process engineers, and ME Area Leaders.
Provide leadership to the ME team to focus on strategic cost reduction initiatives.
As Millwide Cost Reduction leader, the person in this position is/will:
Responsible for ME R-gap (Realizable Gap) renewal process and closing identified gaps.
Work closely with the Finance department to develop the 5-year budget.
Utilize Manufacturing Excellence tools to drive a culture of deliberate improvement and engage employees in participating in cost improvement projects.
Coordinate the use of ME toolbox as needed to address mill issues including Six Sigma, Kaizen, Capital Cost Reduction project management and other ME tools.
Champion resolution of complex operating issues.
Develop and nurture a team-based organization committed to employee participation and teamwork. Utilize CSA process to align Balance Scorecard initiatives to personal objectives.
Hold meaningful one-to-one discussions with members of the ME team, set expectations and hold both teams and individuals accountable for results.
Manage and control departmental costs within budget.
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field required. A minimum of 7-10 years of manufacturing management or process experience in a heavy industrial environment. Candidate will possess Green Belt certification level or higher, and will be required to certify to IP’s Black Belt. Qualified candidates have strong leadership skills focused on accountability and results, and have strong organization and planning skills. Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills are required.
