The Packaging Systems Manufacturing (MFG) Solution Delivery Application Development Analyst I (ADA I) will assist with the design, development and delivery of MFG Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) technology solutions for the Packaging business. They will also assist with technical analysis, daily monitoring, and assist with reporting and decision support on an as needed basis. This position will interact with end users, BIMs, PIMs, ITSS and enterprise wide technical resources to assist with the creation of technical designs from business requirements. The ADA I will then help build and test code to meet the business needs. The ADA I needs a high degree of technical knowledge and should be capable of deploying ERP tools and modules in a complex environment. The ADA I must be versed in the “language” of the business and understand how information flows through business processes, its inter-relationships, and how it should be organized and stored for effective user consumption. The ADA I must have experience and knowledge of ERP application architecture and supporting technologies as well as the ability to work among a team of developers taking tasks to successful completion.

Key Customers: This position has influence on delivering and sustaining strategic, project solutions and information-enabled systems which are essential to the Packaging business. The ADA I is a technical client interface for Packaging Systems to end users, BIMs, PIMs, ITSS and enterprise wide technical resources for strategic MFG ERP and other operational applications.


  • Under limited supervision, is responsible for aiding in technical product recommendations and roadmap implementations for the Packaging environment and IP information architecture enabled by MFG ERP and associated technology. Must have (and maintain) expertise in current and future Packaging technology based tools and products. Interact with Solution Architect on product road mapping.

  • Begins to ensure discretionary and upgrade projects are implemented for optimal MFG ERP technology performance and reliability as planned. Provides expertise to enterprise efforts that impact MFG ERP technology, such as Archiving, Secure Coding practices, Business Continuity, etc. Maintain awareness of best practices employed by other companies using similar MFG ERP technologies and modules.

  • Under limited supervision, Interacts with business partners, consultants, developers and end users to review, interpret business and functional requirements as directed.

  • Assists with the development of technical specifications, work estimates and project schedules to meet defined business requirements.

  • Begins to participate in the overall process improvement of the technical area. Analyze complex user information flows and needs to assist in evaluating alternative technical solutions that meet needs while maintaining business standards. Participates in the technical process design and documentation related to technology enhancements.

  • Performs tasks as needed to achieve on-target development, testing, go-live and sustain activities per published plans. Also participates in activities of other ITSS groups, such as Unix Services, IRM, Connectivity, BI, etc. as directed.

  • Developing into a MFG ERP technical knowledge expert within the company and a source of information for others.

Technology in the ERP area is changing at a rapid pace. Development approaches and alternatives associated with MFG ERP for example, evolve with each new release. Packaging Systems has developed beyond a simple support and development organization, into a multi-functional information hub for all things technical with regards to the Packaging business. Increasing complexity is impacting the scope of work performed by this position. The ADA I must help create and implement IT solutions that can adapt to changing business requirements while remaining technologically viable (reliable, sustainable, high performance) as a coherent part of the growing IP application portfolio. In addition, the expansion of MFG ERP systems throughout our global operations will provide significant technology challenges (from networking latency to application specific configuration) that the ADA I must consider.

The combination of technical expertise and business knowledge is important for this position. The ADA I must have strong technical skills, as well as good communication skills to effectively interact with business partners and other technical resources. Business knowledge is essential in designing effective solutions, and being a credible technical representative to BIMs, PIMs and other ITSS groups.

The ADA I is often called on to assist with completing production support and discretionary work efforts for multiple clients in an environment of ever-shifting mix of priorities. The ADA I must focus on the highest priority task and complete tasks as assigned per the scheduled plan.


The ADA I requires 5+ years of development and technical support experience within the Packaging or related industry. The successful candidate will have the capability to operate with a strategic enterprise view and the ability to productively work within a group of developers. The ability to take tasks to a successful completion is a key to success. The ADA I also has awareness of how IT enables business processes and their related interdependencies as well as highly developed technical skills in multiple areas. The ADA I should have moderate to highly developed technical knowledge in Manufacturing or other ERP technologies.

A 4-year degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or an equivalent is preferred.

Required Skillset:

  • 5+ years working in Linux/Unix/ environments

  • 5+ years experience as backend developer

  • 5+ years Bash and Perl scripting experience writing interfaces

  • 3+ years developing medium to complex MySQL / SQL queries

  • 3+ years supporting existing code bases using a modern debugger (ddd, Visual Studio, Xcode)

  • Working knowledge of Crystal Reporting

  • Experience with source control (TFS, SVN)

  • Good working knowledge of object oriented programming

  • Must be comfortable working in an environment with 100+ installations


  • Supporting or developing in Kiwi and/or Amtech ERP application experience

  • Additional development programming skills in Windows environment or other areas. (needs are ASP.Net, C#, PowerShell, , XML, PHP, Java Script)
