This position is responsible for category commitments of over $100MM in annual spend for MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) materials. Annual cost savings and negotiated TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) values are two key criteria for success. Dealing with ambiguity and conflict management are skills that are required for success. Technical aptitude and business acumen play an important part in everyday activities. This position will reside in Memphis, TN and will report to the Manager of MRO.
Establish contracts for materials and services in accordance with corporate policy.
Keep category contracts current to ensure IP's leverage is maximized.
Obtain maximum value for International Paper in our agreements with regard to cost, quality, delivery, and service levels.
Full responsibility for all Category related activities. These include, but are not limited to: The Strategic Sourcing process, price control, proposal analysis, negotiating improved value, awarding & implementing contracts, and managing contracts to ensure on-going supplier relationships.
Responsible to drive contract compliance by Suppliers and IP's facilities including the reduction of any rogue spend.
Use of the following software programs is required; SAP, SAP BW, SharePoint, Excel, Word, and Power Point.
Work with IP's Source Team to implement new initiatives.
Timely and clear communication with IP facilities regarding category awards, price updates, market conditions, etc. is essential.
Work with IP's Technology & Reliability group to ensure quality product is procured.
This position drives multiple process improvement projects simultaneously while ensuring the team meets requested replenishment of materials.
The Sourcing Leader must gain the cooperation of a large number of stakeholders, including purchasing managers, stores managers, mill managers, maintenance managers, controllers, MRO team and others. The Sourcing Leader must gain the cooperation of a large number of stakeholders, including facility and corporate managers, Maintenance Reliability and Corporate Technology to reach a consensus regarding material and service preferences before leveraging the Company’s combined requirements. Once consensus is achieved, the incumbent can negotiate supplies with the strength of the Company’s consolidated requirements to achieve lower costs and better performance.
Understanding the competitive forces that help determine a material’s cost, and by developing and implementing effective supply strategies. The position can contribute enormously to the profitability of the Company by providing better performing, lower cost, and higher value materials and service.
The position develops strategies and tactics used in negotiations for a broad range of materials. The position is ultimately responsible for bringing many difficult high dollar value supply negotiations to a satisfactory end while, at the same time achieving the concessions necessary to ensure delivery of competitively priced materials that consistently meet the mills’ performance expectations.
Achieving cost reductions often requires convincing one or more plants to make a change: a change in suppliers, a change in materials, inventory targets or some other variation in plant or plant’s “standard” procedures. Continually pursuing opportunities with tenacity, in spite of the difficulties and resistance encountered, is essential to attaining the full cost reduction potential for the Company.
Knowledge and Experience
Undergraduate degree, with a preferred minimum of five years of mill purchasing experience; including working on cross functional teams and experience implementing process improvement projects.
A BS/BA degree in Management, Supply Chain, Finance or engineering is required
Experience in a Corporate Purchasing role utilizing IP’s strategic sourcing process is highly desired
Knowledge of products and services being procured is desired
Knowledge of basic product function through experience or self-study is preferred
Ability to analyze and present complex data in writing and orally.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills are required
Significant expertise in procurement and commercial practices
Proven skills in negotiating and administering contracts and agreements
Working knowledge and understanding of accounting and internal controls
