Position Description:

The Recovery & Utilities First Line Leader is one of two shift leader positions per crew that lead the on-shift operating team of approximately 30 technicians. In this role, the First Line Leader is responsible for the mill’s performance during the shift. (Power and Recovery, Recaust and Kiln, Digester, Screen room, Bleach plant and Fluff Machine) This is a rotating shift position.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Lead team safety. Safety is a core value. The First Line Leader sustains the team at 0 RIR.

  • Manage daily operational decisions, to include rate, surge, grade and prime strategies.

  • Ensure effective communication between the operation teams and all support/leadership teams.

  • Set priorities and flow resources as needed to address mill needs.

  • Serve as the primary contact for the plant in case of emergency.

  • Lead problem resolution. Troubleshoot issues and initiate additional resources as appropriate.

  • Celebrate and communicate excellent results.

  • Grow team and individual performance. This includes annual performance reviews with team members, ensuring correct staffing, training, scheduling and development for the team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering strongly preferred

  • Pulp and Paper Mill experience preferred

  • Minimum of 4 years of demonstrated leadership

  • Excellent decision making, judgment and outstanding interpersonal skills are required.
