SUMMARY

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for a variety of routine and some non-routine clerical/accounting functions in accordance with standard procedures in one or more of the following areas: payroll, general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable or a related financial area. This position is based at our Portland Box, Oregon, facility and reports to the Controller.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Perform daily financial activities of the plant.

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of daily, weekly, and monthly responsibilities and reports.

  • Assist in other accounting duties such as balancing books, processing payments, and reconciling freight.

  • Prepares and performs weekly payroll functions through Workbrain. Maintains Workbrain parameters.

  • Local Reporting (Daily). Prepare, Review and Investigate prior to distribution.

  • Maintains conformance to internal control systems.

  • Completes monthly closing entries and reconciliations.

  • Responsible for month end closing activities to support GFS including: ICC Accounting, Reclassification entries, balance sheet review, and other month end support including P & L review. Understands the P & L and Balance Sheet, and able to assist Controller is a key role in this position.

  • Reviews GFS entries for accuracy, and provides documentation to GFS to support entries.

  • Responsible for SKF Tracking and Upload for month end activities.

  • Supports reconciliations and review of physical inventories.

  • Contacting other departments and/or outside agencies to resolve problems.

  • Assisting in budgeting preparation and control activities.

  • Interacts and communicates effectively with external and internal customers.

  • Must be able to identify and surface issues, including variances that do not meet standard practices.

  • Must be able to support the Plant General Manager’s Analysis/Reporting requests, which includes running basic reports, utilizing Excel for analysis, and must be able to understand what looks correct and where verification is coming from.

  • A/P – limited Processing, NOPO Web, Freight/Utility Invoices. PINS/PO go to for direction on problem resolution. PCard/Website Purchasing.

  • A/R – assist Controller with monitoring process. Past Due items, CSR support/training resource, work with Regional & National Credit Analysts, BOL – POD requests.

  • Billing- review and file daily billing, BOL, non-commodity invoices.

  • Rollstock – reconcile daily transactions, validate results. Cycle count verifications and Physical Inventory adjustment.

  • FG/WIP – Monitoring. Cycle count verification, 3rd Party Outsourced product tracking.

  • Provides administrative support, including: phone coverage, HR backup, records retention, manage office supply levels.

  • All other duties assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Two to three years accounting experience or equivalent related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Excellent communication skills (listening, writing, and speaking) required.

  • Attention to detail, and ability to analyze, problem solve and make good decisions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required. Experience working with Workbrain, Kiwi and/or SAP is a plus.

  • Excellent time management skills, and able to work both independently and in a team environment.

  • Ability to handle details accurately.

  • Ability to work overtime if needed during month-end closing, which is typically one or two hours per month.
